Team head in to Kunming to find curry

A CHICKEN tikka masala was the reward for the Great Britain team after a hard day’s play at the Asian Open.

Wilson, assistant at the Hello! Minigolf Club, arranged for a car to whisk Oliver Florence and Richard Skeggs in to the centre of Kunming to visit one of the city’s top Indian restaurants.

Both went for their favourite dish with boiled rice and beer.

But while Florence played it safe and ordered a garlic naan, Skeggs went for the risky option and asked for one of the fruit variety.

He was left visibly disappointed after waitress Kitty brought out the bread, topped with apples and sultanas.

Skeggs declared the naan “rancid”.

“I was expecting something similar to a peshwari naan and I felt duped,” he added.

The whole meal came to around £11 and due to a breakdown in communications the still almost whole specimen was packaged up for the pair to take with them.

It was quickly deposited in a nearby bin by Skeggs.

The two then caught a taxi back to team headquarters and arrived in one piece despite a few hairy moments on the road – including almost running over a small white dog – and several wrong turnings.

Florence said: “It was great to go in to the middle of town and have a quick look around and it was even better to find an Indian restaurant.

“A curry is my traditional pre-tournament meal of choice back home in the UK so hopefully it can spur me on to big things on the second day of the competition.”

Florence and Skeggs are now preparing for the final four rounds before the bottom half of the field is eliminated.

Later on today they will return to town for a traditional Chinese show laid on by the sponsors.
